The Hoosac Tunnel: A Triumph of Surveying:
In the mid-1800’s a group of investors set out to carve the world’s longest tunnel through five miles of solid rock under 1,700 feet of mountain. It became a tunneling nightmare and political folly but would eventually find its place in history and become recognized as one of the greatest engineering feats in America. The true heroes were the dedicated surveyors that brought the two ends together. This entertaining pictorial presentation features their surveying triumph.
